Country estate and paddock

A rural hamlet garden transformed with a natural swimming pool and orchard

A hand drawn ink master plan for a country estate garden

A couple wanted to make more of their garden as their grown up children moved on. The space was also home to sheep, horses, geese, chickens and dogs.

Active swimmers and nature lovers, my clients were looking for spaces to entertain and relax, room to grow their own food and ways to encourage more wildlife into the garden.

Taking inspiration from natural salt flats in the local area, we designed a natural swimming pool, nestled against the hedgerow boundary with a discrete changing pod. The pool is flanked by a larger terrace for enjoying the evening sun.

Reclaimed brick and gravel paths flowing from the house lead to secret areas around the large rear garden, including a new cider orchard with heritage varieties. More functional areas, including the stables are screened with pleached trees.

Areas of fragrant, naturalistic cottage garden planting with year round interest attract pollinators and other wildlife while being livestock and dog-friendly.

Views to the distant hills can be enjoyed from a bench made from reclaimed materials.
